Doing pretty well

Liko is doing very well. He's a cute, healthy and very strong boy who can't wait to crawl and run through our house....until then he has so much energy that sleeping is not his favorite activity :-)

Vaccination

Today Liko got his first shot...vaccination against diphteria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio and pneumococcal disease. He is now 10 weeks old. Usually babies get their first shot at 8 weeks, but we needed time to think. There are many stories about the side effects, some of them really serious. But on the other hand: there are so many kids who don't experience any side effects at all. I guess it's because of Kalle and the whole medical circus that it just doesn't feel right to inject something into such a young baby. We kind of lost our trust in medical science.
But Liko was brave. He only cried for a couple of seconds. Let's hope he will be fine the rest of the day.

There was another milestone today: he put a toy in his mouth for the first time.

During the last week he played with his hands a lot and now he apparently realized that his hands are not the only tasty thing...

8 weeks

It's been a while. Guess why: we're busy :-) Having two kids is a 24/7 job. Night shifts. Not enough sleep.

The good thing: Liko is doing really well. He already gained 1.7 kg, he is curious, smiled for the first time a week ago. He moves a lot, rolled from his tummy onto his back. We think he'll be the kind of kid you have to chase all the time...
 
The big question: will he have curls, like his brother??? It's too early to tell.

Three weeks

Tomorrow (sunday) Liko is three weeks old. Wow. Three weird, hard, amazing weeks. Liko turns out to be a lively, agile baby who wants to drink as much as possible in a short time. He starts to look at us now (not sure what he sees, but at least he looks in the right direction...). And he already gained quite some weight.

This weekend grandpa and grandma Markowski came to meet their new grandson. It was love at first sight :-)

Day 6

I guess Liko has a secret sponsor deal with some kind of detergent producer. What other reason could he possibly have to pee every time in the middle of the diaper changing process?! But okay, he is doing fine, everything works :-)
It still feels weird and unreal to have a new family member, but we wouldn't trade him for a million bucks.
We are not sure if big brother Kalle understands what's going on. I'm sure he feels that things have changed, somehow. It would be great to see some kind of interaction, but let's not rush things...
Went for awalk yesterday...well....TRIED to go for a walk... Liko didn't like his stroller, so we had to carry him. But even that wasn't what he wanted. We'll try again today.
The nights are okay-ish. At least Liko allows us to sleep approx. 3-4 hours in a row before he asks for the next meal.

Day 1

I went to the hospital just to get my blood pressure checked.... and we came home a couple of hours later with a baby. Liko was born at 1:34 pm on sunday 31 july 2011, 9 days earlier than expected. The first thing he did (while he cried really loud) was pee. On me. Territorial behaviour, I guess.... Big brother Kalle slept in his stroller in the corner of the delivery room while Liko was born. 
Five hours after the birth the van Bijnen / Markowski family went home.
